Full Dentures

Dentures are ideal for patients who are missing teeth and are looking for an affording and effective solution for their missing teeth. At Dental South in Wyoming, MI, we offer a range of restorative dentistry options for our patients including full and partial dentures. We recommend patients get dental implants, but that is not always an option for either financial reasons or because there is not enough bone mass in the jaw. Luckily, dentures are a great option and will help you restore your smile and function of your teeth.

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. It is made of acrylic resin, sometimes  with various metals. A full set can replace all the teeth, while a partial fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position. Patients usually opt for dentures if they are not candidates for dental implants. Dentures are usually covered by insurance and can provide excellent results.

Candidates for complete dentures have lost most or all of their teeth. A partial is suitable for those who have some natural teeth remaining. A denture improves chewing ability and speech, and provides support for facial muscles.

A partial is often a solution when several teeth are missing. A removable partial usually consists of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases, which are connected by metal framework. Removable partials attach to your natural teeth with metal clasps or devices called precision attachments. Precision attachments are generally more esthetic than metal clasps and are nearly invisible. Crowns on your natural teeth may improve the fit of a removable partial and they are usually required with attachments. Partials with precision attachments generally cost more than those with metal clasps.

Care For Your Dentures

Even with full dentures, you still need to take good care of your mouth. Every morning, brush your gums, tongue and palate with a soft-bristled brush before you put them back in. This removes plaque and stimulates circulation in the mouth. Selecting a balanced diet for proper nutrition is also important for maintaining a healthy mouth.

The Benefits

Dentures have come a long way since they were first invented. You may have heard horror stories about your grandparent’s dentures falling out at horrible times. However, this is now uncommon. With recent dental technology, the lab is able to recreate your gum line to pristine detail, ensuring a perfect fit. With this perfect fit, you will be able to enjoy your favorite food like steak, pork chops and corn on the cob again with the security of knowing your dentures will not fall out.
